Salalah...Salalah....heyyyyy..Oman

This is Salalah.

Ada and I went to the souq.

We bought spices.

We met shopkeepers.

We found frankincense.

We had fun.

That is all.

No Apologies

“No matter what happens in the kitchen, never apologize”
-Julia Child

I have always tried to take la Child's wise words into everything kitchen-related.  And today, as I realize I am about to write what has become a monthly post to check back in on my world cruise (yes, the one that ended in May), I started to use the "A" word, noting that, at this rate, I would be able to keep everyone on tenterhooks (ha! riiiigghhttt) for about two years....

But no, no apologies.  Just going to carry on as if my final leg of my world cruise happened last week...

so...Dubai, anyone?

Two days.  One very tall building.  One very fast racetrack.

Off we go.

So my friend Howard, cocktail in hand, leans over to me and sweetly whispers in my ear ( don't worry, his fabulous wife Renee was standing right there)...

"Wanna go drive an open-wheel race car?"

I blinked twice.

I looked at him quizzically.  His eyes twinkled, and Renee giggled.

Heck, he was SERIOUS!  Howard had discovered Autodrome Dubai, where, yes, we could go racing.

Oh, and it was MAGICAL!!

I have no video but Renee, as official photographer, took some shots to prove we did get behind the wheel of some very fast (140mph?) race cars....

Getting seat-belted in to within an inch of my life (literally).

And yes, I found...

I mean...WOW!!

Well, what could top THAT?  I guess go to the world's tallest building with the girls!

Proof I was in the building.

We could see the famous fountains with a zoom lens!

Most of you know about my fear of heights--it's almost as legendary as my son's.... but I did it...just to say I had.

Once back downstairs where I could breathe again and stop shaking we had a fabulous lunch at Rooftop

Then it was time for Ada and me to take in the Mall of the Emirates-complete with indoor ski slope.

 Kitschy photos.

Mind-blowing couple of days. Thanks, in part, to the visionary, HH Sheikh Mohammed.
