Final Pics of Las Vegas

Well, you know how they say that the road to Hell is paved with good intentions....

I had every intention of finishing the telling of the trip to Las Vegas and the North West Passage before Halloween...then Thanksgiving...then Christmas....well, you get the picture.

(um...I guess you really didn't.....)

But, without further ado--and desperately trying to avoid a major attack of the guilts...here's the last few images of Vegas.

Most of us desperately want to forget that our merry band travelled to Vegas just one week after the horrible massacre of so many at the outdoor concert. But we felt we needed to make a pilgrimage to the famous Las Vegas sign- just to see it.  A makeshift memorial had sprung up- and, while moving me to tears, made me glad we went.

We hopped in Andy and John's rented Mustang

I say that if one is touring the great American Southwest, one should do it in a convertible.

We drove past the Mandalay Bay- where that horrible monster's room was still boarded up.

This is one of the entrance/exit gates on the concert property.  Sadly, 59 people would not live to see this "See Ya Later"- and over 500 would have to be carried out injured.

So there you go.

We will.

Vegas Strong!!!

Last Night in Las Vegas

Well, after that amazing helicopter ride, how are you going to spend the REST of the afternoon/evening in Las Vegas?

First---a roller coaster ride in the Big Apple....thanks to New York New York casino!

Award for coolest door handles ANYWHERE.

While Jennifer, Andy and I rode the roller coaster...

Kris and John visited the casino and had a drink.  There were some great signs around...

Is this a great name for a pub or what?

Next stop. The Cosmopolitan Hotel and it's almost hidden Chandelier Bar.

Yes a bar INSIDE the chandelier.  Anna-Grace insisted we go, and if daring enough, to request the Verbena- a crazy drink  that leads your tastebuds on a merry dance and has been described as a sparkler in your mouth without the burns..... Our cocktail waitress tried to describe it...

...but you really just have to try it.

It was wild-and weird- and tasty.  but two szechuan buttons are enough.
They had some other unusual drink combos....

Jen tried a Soylent Green-

Then it was off to dinner--past

Isn't this a great name for a bar?

Looks like outdoors, but it's really inside.  SOOOOO Vegas.

Doesn't everyone need to see a Zombie Burlesque show?   Next trip, maybe.

And we finished off the evening at "Las Vegas- the Show"... real showgirls!!!

Kris posed for her wind-tunnel effect as we opened the doors to the outside....

Damn good day!

The Grand Canyon

Hi All!  It's been a quite busy month of November so far- with a visit to Georgia to see the kiddos and such. But it's about time I got back to my trip to Vegas and also the Northwest Passage...

(Yes, I am once again feeling the guilt of not posting....man, that guilt came back quickly.  You would think that not blogging for three YEARS would do away with the guilt...but NOOOO....and I am digressing once again....)

Back to Vegas...you remember how Andy was the one playing cruise director, right?  So, first thing Sunday morning, a car came to pick us up.

THAT is a CAR!

Can you tell from Kris' and Jenifer's expressions that they are a little nervous?  Well, it's because we were headed to the GRAND CANYON by HELICOPTER!

...but nothing some Xanax or a Janie can't cure...

Andy and John were just excited...maybe even more about the limo than the helicopter...

I'm almost embarrassed to say that I'd never been to the Grand Canyon.  This was also my first helicopter ride....and I had an absolute blast!  I think we all did.

There's not much explaining to do, so I'll just hand you a whole plateful of photos and I hope you ENJOY!!!

Kris ALMOST backed out of this flight...she was that worried about flying in a helicopter--even an 8 seater.....

Open pit mine--I thought that was a really interesting sight..

Hoover Dam and Lake Mead

It's WAAAAYYYY down WAAAAYYY fast...

Picnic Lunch and Champagne

Is there anything really like flying over the Las Vegas Strip in a helicopter, with Elvis' "Viva Las Vegas" playing in your headset????

You know it's been a great ride when you get this from Kris......
