Spring Catchup, round 2

We had Brentwood High School Honors Day.

Caroline, as a member of the State Champion Girls Trio, sang.

Alix received the Daughters of the American Revolution History Award...

(History???? History??? She's a math and science girl, she says...)

and also received awards for highest average in AP Biology, English, and AP US History, was named a Presbyterian College Junior Fellow, a University of Georgia Merit Scholar. She also received certificate for placing third in Personal Essay at the region literary meet. Translation, she cleaned up! I am so proud of her!

The members of the Senior Beta Club were recognized...but they look a bit sheepish...

Alix was very happy for her friend, Elizabeth Rawlings, who was named Valedictorian for the Class of 2011.

Suzanna Hodges joined in the hug, too.

I was happy for Elizabeth's mom, my dear friend Beth Rawlings, who is here with her daughter Sarah talking to my friend Jennifer Tillirson.

No Alix is NOT that much taller than me...she had on gigantic heels...

Photog par excellence Joel Tillirson was goofy at the reception immediately afterwards.

Taylor and Emmaline looked beautiful.

My friend Dr. Kreslyn Odum Brooks and her husband Dr. Byron Brooks sponsored Casino Night 2011 to raise money for a new teenage program Venturing

Too bad I didn't have the Queen of Hearts..

Taylor and Caroline learned the finer points of playing blackjack

Courtney Brookins Tollison and I had fun together....

Lindsey Noggle was serenaded by Elvis..

Then it POURED last Saturday..

But just for a little, and I went out to Susanne and John Faulker's for supper.

I love her house in the country.

I continued to work on my patio--the weather has been delightful

and I could have made another dog out of the shedding Chip has done.

Tuesday was 17May, the Norwegian "Birthday", so I proudly flew the flag in honor of my dear Norwegian friends, and the land I love.

No, I didn't get the time to make a kransekake...and as far a waffles, this was the best I could do.

My heart was willing, though. Later in the evening I gathered a few bits together...

Feeble attempt, but attempt nonetheless.

Well, that pretty much brings you up to date. Once I get the Prom and Track postings done, you will be fully in the know! Oh, and I have a new EP366 to begin sharing!!!!!

Spring Catchup, round 1

I can't believe how busy we have been here at Maison Cou Rouge. It happens every spring, and by now you would think I would be prepared for it, but NOOOOOOOO.

Do you feel as woefully behind as I do? Well, hopefully, the next few series of posts will bring everyone up to speed a bit.

I think I last left you with photos from Alix's Superbeau Wesley's prom... since then------

I got to dress as Shine the Dog to help the Guild of Washington County teach children safety rules

Caroline's mom Lisa was our facilitator that day- what a wonderful friend she is!

I dropped a 32 pound box of raised garden bed on my big toe.

but got them built

We built prom and had the state track meet, both of which get their own posts.....

Wesley came with me to see Alix's Dance Concert--she had 5 dances!

The Company- Brentwood Ballet

(I'll post more as soon as I get the DVD with all the photos from McNeely Garden Studios
but for a while you may be able to see them by clicking on the link.

I drove to Atlanta on Mother's Day to have lunch with AJ and Anna-Grace at the Sundial in the Westin

Brunch was a very yummy chicken breast and sauce over biscuits...

with views of the Georgia Aquarium

and Centennial Olympic Park.

to be continued......

Past Lives

Every day, I receive a short teaching/meditation from Rigpa, a site dedicated to promoting Tibetan Buddhism. Today's "Glimpse of the Day" gave me a moment of understanding and I had to share it.

(as a side note, the older I get, the more the phrase "if we cannot remember what we were doing" hits home............)

“If we have lived before,” I’m often asked, “why don’t we remember it?” But why should the fact that we cannot remember our past lives mean that we have never lived before? After all, experiences—of our childhood, or of yesterday, or even of what we were thinking an hour ago—were vivid as they occurred, but the memory of them has almost totally eroded, as though they had never taken place. If we cannot remember what we were doing or thinking last Monday, how on earth do we imagine it would be easy, or normal, to remember what we were doing in a previous lifetime?

Federal Government Sets New Golf Rules

This is for my brother Will (aka "Uncle Woo".)

(He actually doesn't always look like a pirate).

As Will is an avid golfer, AND I know he is a HUGE supporter of the current Prez (oh, Lordy, am I going to get it for THAT one), I know he will be thrilled to see how his chosen method of in-town relaxation is changing!!!

Love ya', bro!

Federal government sets new golf rules

President Obama has recently appointed a Golf Czar and major rule changes in the game of golf will become effective in May 2011. This is only a preview as the complete rule book (expect 2000 pages) is being rewritten as we speak. Here are a few of the changes.

Rule 237-A: All beer summits will be held at the 19th hole.

Golfers with handicaps:

• below 10 will have their green fees increased by 35%.

• between 11 and 18 will see no increase in green fees.

• above 18 will get a $20 check each time they play.

The term “gimmie” will be changed to “entitlement” and will be used as follows:

• handicaps below 10, no entitlements.

• handicaps from 11 to 17, entitlements for putter length putts.

• handicaps above 18, if your ball is on green, no need to putt, just pick it up.

These entitlements are intended to bring about fairness and, most importantly, equality in scoring.

In addition, a player will be limited to a maximum of one birdie or six pars in any given 18-hole round. Any excess must be given to those fellow players who have not yet scored a birdie or par.

Only after all players have received a birdie or par from the player actually making the birdie or par, can that player begin to count his pars and birdies again. The current USGA handicap system will be used for the above purposes, but the term “net score” will be available only for scoring those players with handicaps of 18 and above.

This is intended to “re-distribute” the success of winning by making sure that in every competition, the above 18 handicap players will post only “net score” against every other player’s gross score.

These new Rules are intended to CHANGE the game of golf.

Golf must be about Fairness. It should have nothing to do with ability, hard work, practice, and responsibility. This is the “right thing to do.”
